2008 NFL Draft Team Needs: New England Patriots
Linebacker - The Patriots lack a capable linebacker who isn’t in his 30s (Adalius Thomas - turns 31; Tedi Bruschi - turns 35) and the depth (or lack of it) is sad. And since this draft has plenty of capable linebackers (including the versative Vernon Gholston), the Patriots should find one or two guys to fill gaps.
Cornerback - Ellis Hobbs is the only potential starting corner on this roster, which is saying something. Both Randall Gay and Asante Samuel are gone, and the Patriots will feel the effects of having no one to replace them early in the season as defenses take advantage. To counter that, New England should add a talented corner in the draft.
Offensive Tackle - Matt Light was pretty solid, but Nick Kaczcur wasn’t. And since both had real troubles protecting against speed rushers, this is an area that can stand some improvement.
Number to Know - 1 - The number of times since becoming an expansion team in 1960 the Patriots had the best offense (scoring or yardage) in the NFL, which was last season. Is there any chance of a repeat?
