Trend-Watching: Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall
Posted by tomvanwyheBrandon Marshall didn’t exactly have the start to the 2008 season most would have wanted. Some off-field issues left him suspended for the first week of the season - a game which would have been a great matchup for Marshall, as the Broncos tore apart the Oakland Raiders defense. But in week two Marshall made everyone forget that he didn’t play week one, posting 18 receptions 166 yards and a touchdown in a record-setting performance that Denver fans and fantasy owners just couldn’t get enough of.
A week later against New Orleans Marshall again made his presence known, hauling in 6 grabs for 155 yards and a touchdown. Three weeks into the season and he already had 24 catches, 321 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Anyone would have been forgiven for not realizing he had missed the first game of the season.
Now we’re a third of the way through 2008 and Marshall isn’t letting up. He now has 43 catches, 521 yards, and 3 touchdowns, despite the Broncos passing game and overall offense slowing down considerably. Marshall has finished just one game this season with fewer than 6 receptions or 75 receiving yards, an incredible statistic that reinforces what a great receiver he’s been this season. No one has as many catches as Marshall and only one player is averaging more receiving yards pre game.
And this is a guy who missed week one. Incredible.
